  Gifted Children's Program Picnic July 20

Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 20! That's the date for the 3rd Annual Joint Mensa/MCGT Picnic, and we hope that many of you will be able to attend. This year's event occurs during "National Parenting Gifted Children Week," an event sponsored by SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted, www.sengifted.org), which takes place the third week of July each year.

This event will be held at the Tony Schmidt/Lake Johanna Regional Park Shelter from noon to 5 p.m. Information on the park's location and amenities may be found at http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/parks/parks/TonySchmidt.htm. There is a swimming beach there, so be sure to bring your suits and towels (but NO inflatable devices or buoyant objects).

As always, burgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and paper products will be supplied by our groups. We ask that families bring side dishes such as salads, munchies, and desserts.

Because food is being provided, RSVPs are *required* by July 16. Please send an email to Gifted Children's Coordinator, Teresa Manzella, with the number of people attending, the ages of your children, and what dish you are going to bring. (The last item is so I can give good answers when people ask me what we need more of.)

It is important to those of us planning this event that you respond in a timely fashion with complete information. Everyone will have more fun if we have enough food, game supplies, and door prizes to go around. We'll look forward to seeing you there!

   July First Friday

 Our First Feasible Friday gathering will be held at the Holiday Inn Select in Bloomington. Click here for directions and a map.

  Future First Friday Location

Rich Lee headed up a committee to find a new, permanent First Friday location. He found 44 possible locations that were whittled down to 2 viable locations.

Here is a complete list of the locations that were considered. The two that met all of our criteria were Caspers Cherokee Sirloin Room in West St Paul and Holiday Inn Select in Bloomington. Holiday Inn met all of our criteria and that's the location that the committee recommended.

We'd love to hear about other possibilities. If you know of a place that isn't on the list above, bring the suggestion to a board member. When discussing this, keep in mind that there were only two locations that adequately met our needs. The rest were not viable. All suggestions will be investigated.

  First Friday Front Desk

Minnesota Mensa members  can sign up for a short stint at the First Friday front desk. The shifts are 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Contact Jane Gmur for further information.
